Joining forces to cut streetworks disruption to motorists in Doncaster has earned the M1 Corridor Gas Alliance (a partnership between National Grid and Amec) and Doncaster Council a national pat on the back.
The two organisations were commended for their efforts at the ‘National Joint Utility Group Awards – Vision for Streetworks’. They scooped second place in the hotly contested “Partnership Awards” at the prestigious industry event.
The honour followed co-operation between the Alliance and the Council to minimise disruption during recent work to replace 5km of gas main along the A630 Balby Road.
Steve Reynolds, from the M1 Corridor Gas Alliance said: “A major replacement project of this kind will cause disruption but by working closely with the council we were able to keep disruption to a minimum. The processes and practices put in place for the first two phases of the project will certainly be continued as work progresses and will become the standard way of working on future projects in Doncaster and the surrounding area.”
Peter Dale, Doncaster Council's Director of Regeneration and Environment , said: “It has been a major challenge to develop the spirit of collaboration to allow works to be planned and co-ordinated on one of our key transport routes. This national recognition demonstrates how the council is forging close working relationships with its partners that ultimately benefit local communities and the town.”
