National Grid, the UK’s largest utility, is investing £120,000 in improving Burton’s gas network.
Work will begin on Tuesday 1 September on a five week project to replace the old iron gas main along the High Street, from the junction of New Street to Manor Croft with new plastic pipe, which will last for 80 years if left undisturbed once underground.
The work will be carried out by Morrison Utility Services, working in partnership with National Grid.
A lane width restriction will be in place, on the outbound lane of the road for the duration of the works.
In order to keep disruption to a minimum the new pipe will be inserted through the old one, reducing the amount of digging needed and speeding up the work.
Dave Orton, project manager explains, ”We have worked very closely with the local highways authority to ensure we keep disruption to the absolute minimum. We apologise for any inconvenience this work may cause.”
Engineers will need access to a number of properties during the work to ensure safe connection of gas service pipes to the new main. Residents and businesses will be notified in advance if they are affected, and people should always ask to see identification before allowing anyone in to their property. Access to properties will be maintained throughout.
