National Grid and Veolia Water Three Valleys are uniting to minimise disruption during a project to replace gas and water mains in Harrow and Wealdstone.
The joint working initiative will see the two companies carry out essential improvement work in Locket Road between the junctions of High Street and Montrose Avenue. Work will also take place in High Street between the police station and the clock tower at the junction of Spencer Road.
Work on the Veolia Water Three Valleys scheme will be carried out by Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions (BBUS). It will begin on Monday July 20 and it is expected to be completed within six weeks. National Grid will then begin their work in the area, which will last for approximately 10 weeks.
During the works Locket Road will be made one way eastbound between the junctions of High Street and Stirling Road with single alternate lane traffic in High Street between the junctions of Locket Road and George Gange Way. There will also be some local junction closures. Westbound traffic will follow a signed diversion route.
National Grid Constructions Operations Manager Michael Morris, explained: “We always plan our work in close coordination with local councils and other agencies.
“As part of this process we liaise with the other utility companies and wherever practical we try to carry out any work planned for the same area at the same time. This ‘joined-up’ approach means that any disruption associated with these vital improvements can be got out of the way in one go.”
The works in Locket Road are part of ongoing projects by National Grid and Veolia Water Three Valleys.

National Grid is investing over £2million to replace approximately 2.5km of iron gas mains with new hard wearing plastic pipes in the area. If left undisturbed the new pipes will last for many years and ensure local people continue to enjoy safe and reliable gas supplies in the future. This vital work is being carried out by the North London Gas Alliance, a partnership between National Grid and Skanska.
Those properties whose gas supply is affected by these works will be contacted individually. People are reminded that it is important to ask to see official identification from anyone seeking to gain access to their property. For more information on this call 0845 605 6677.
