Curry Raises Cash for Earthquake Appeal

14/11/2005

Staff at National Grid in Wolverhampton served up a curry lunch and raised £550 for the Asian Earthquake Appeal.

More than 100 staff based at the Gas Alliance offices in Stafford Road tucked into an exotic array of food including chicken curry, vegetable balti, samosas and sweets.  All the food was prepared and cooked by the company's health and safety co-ordinator Shanoon Akhtar

Shanoon said:  'We have held curry lunches before but have never used them as a way of raising funds.  On this occasion we asked for a donation from staff before they filled their plates and we're really pleased with the amount we have raised for such an important cause.'

The Gas Alliance is a partnership of two companies, National Grid and Morgan Est plc, a major utilities contractor.  The Alliance was formed by National Grid at the beginning of 2005 to help it meet its commitment to replace 45,000km of metal main with plastic pipe over the next 30 years.
