Gas supplies in Cricklewood, Barnet

24/11/2010

National Grid engineers have restored gas supplies to most of the 280 properties affected by a loss of supply in the Cricklewood area of Barnet.

National Grid was alerted to the incident on Monday 22 November after water from a burst water main entered the gas pipeline network.

Residents of those properties where engineers have been unable to gain access should call National Grid on 0845 605 6677 to arrange a time for their gas supply to be reconnected.

Important – Attempting to reconnect your own gas supply or re-light appliances can be dangerous.  Please wait until an engineer calls to ensure your gas system is working safely.

National Grid Incident Controller Tom Murray said: “We have worked closely with the London Borough of Barnet and Thames Water to resolve this incident and get people’s gas supplies reconnected as soon as possible. I would like to thank local people for their understanding and patience during this time and apologise for any inconvenience.”

If you are elderly or disabled, or you have long-term illness, small children or other special needs,  and are still without gas, you should call us on 0845 605 6677 so we can arrange other heating and cooking facilities for you. If you know of any neighbours who may need special assistance, please let us know as soon as possible.

All National Grid personnel carry official identity cards containing a photograph and people should ask to see this before allowing anyone into their property. For further verification people can call 0845 605 6677.

National Grid has set up a Mobile Command Unit in the Matalan car park off Cricklewood Broadway to provide information and is due to remain there until 4pm on Wednesday 24 November.

Mr Murray added: “We are very grateful to Matalan for allowing us to use their car park which has greatly assisted us in dealing with this incident.”
