Local Development Frameworks

The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act, 2004 requires Councils to prepare a Local Development Framework, which is a portfolio of Local Development Documents.

National Grid as a key infrastructure provider and stakeholder wishes to contribute to the preparation, alteration and review of relevant Local Development Documents (LDDs) which may affect our assets including policies and plans relating to the following issues: -

  • Policies relating to overhead transmission lines
  • Policies relating to the diverting or undergrounding of overhead transmission lines
  • Development adjacent to high voltage overhead lines
  • Other policies relating to infrastructure or utility provision
  • Policies relating to development in the countryside
  • Landscape policies
  • Allocating of sites for residential development adjacent to our assets
  • Allocation of sites for minerals extraction and waste management

In addition, we also want to be consulted on significant planning applications, which may affect our assets.

National Grid would much prefer to be involved at the outset of establishing a planning policy that can be used by the authority to guide development. Therefore, if we can be of any assistance to you in providing informal comments in confidence during your policy development, please do not hesitate to contact us. We have a wealth of experience in this area and would be able to provide examples of policies used in development plans elsewhere in the country, together with Inspector’s Reports where National Grid have objected to policies in development plans.

We would be grateful if you could add our details shown below to your internal consultation database: -
