Local authorities in England, Scotland and Wales are required to prepare Local Development Frameworks, Local Development Plans and Strategic Development Plans respectively.
National Grid as a key infrastructure provider and stakeholder wishes to contribute to the preparation, alteration and review of such planning documents which may affect our assets, including policies and plans relating to the following issues: -
- Any policies relating to overhead electricity transmission lines, underground electricity cables or gas pipeline installations;
- Site specific allocations/land use policies affecting sites crossed by overhead lines, underground cables or high pressure gas pipelines;
- Land use policies/proposed developments adjacent to existing high voltage electricity substation sites and above ground gas installations;
- Any policies relating to the diversion or undergrounding of overhead transmission lines;
- Other policies relating to infrastructure or utility provision;
- Policies relating to development in the countryside;
- Landscape policies;
- Waste and mineral plans.
National Grid would much prefer to be involved at the outset of establishing a planning policy that can be used by the authority to guide development. Therefore, if we can be of any assistance to you in providing informal comments in confidence during your policy development, please do not hesitate to contact us. We have a wealth of experience in this area and would be able to provide examples of policies used in development plans elsewhere in the country, together with Inspector’s Reports where National Grid have objected to policies in development plans.
National Grid has recently appointed AMEC (formerly Entec) to review and respond to development plan consultations on its behalf. We would be grateful if you could add the details shown below to your consultation database and send all consultation documents directly to AMEC, wherever possible by email at the following email address: damien.holdstock@amec.com
Should you need to send some consultation documents by post, please send them to the following address:
