Gas Agreements

When we install a gas pipeline, we negotiate permanent easements with the landowners.

This easement (also known as a Deed of Grant of easement, or Deed of servitude in Scotland) is a permanent interest in land which allows National Grid to install, operate and maintain the pipeline.

The owner receives a payment for the easement based on a ‘per metre run’ basis related to the value of the land affected. Payments are calculated from base figures and agreed at a national level with the National Farmers’ Union, the Country Land and Business Association, NFU Scotland and the Scottish Rural Property and Business Association.
