National Grid Grain LNG and Principal Contractor, CB&I are celebrating a milestone one million hours worked with no injuries to staff by donating £20,000 to local charities.
This milestone has been achieved by the team working on the expansion of the Isle of Grain terminal that imports Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) into the UK. This is currently the only such terminal in the country and can import up to 4% of UK gas supplies as ships unload at the jetty in the Medway. Once the construction of the three new additional LNG tanks is complete, the capacity will increase to 12%, and most of this gas will be supplied to the South East and London.
Ian Davis, Director of National Grid Grain LNG said, "The team have been working hard to ensure a safe working environment and feel that donating money to local charities is the best way to mark the achievement of over one million hours worked without any serious injury being sustained. Safety is paramount to the project team, and so is supporting the local community that the 700 contractors and staff work within."
Charities set to benefit are the Kent Air Ambulance and the Willow Foundation. Kent Air Ambulance Trust is a registered charity that responds swiftly to 999 calls to relieve sick and injured people in South East England and is one of 16 independent Air Ambulance operators funded entirely by voluntary donations. The Willow Foundation is a national charity that provides quality of life for seriously ill young adults aged 16-40 through the provision of special days.
David Williams, Chief Executive of the Willow Foundation offered his sincere thanks to National Grid and CBI and said that “such a wonderful donation will make a significant difference to many lives”. The Kent Air ambulance have also thanked both companies and invited them to their base in Marsden to see the helicopter and crew.
