Craig started working for National Grid as an apprentice at the age of 21. After completing the apprenticeship programme Craig worked as a mechanical technician and then in operations on the Grain LNG terminal. Craig has now almost completed his HNC and he will soon be looking to start a degree.
“Grain LNG has a lot to offer,” said Craig. ”I am working at the forefront of technology, taking responsibility and have opportunities to get hands on experience. I have gained knowledge in the commissioning of plants and in process engineering while building a good network of friends and work colleagues. Everyday is different and challenging.”
Craig is involved in the maintenance of the LNG terminal, undertaking work such as the removal of an ‘in tank’ pump which sits within the LNG storage tank. It may sound like a simple job but involves a team of six people working for up to three days and a full risk assessment to remove the pump. When new equipment is installed engineers such as Craig shadow the supplier and learn the routine maintenance, to later take responsibility to run in-house onsite workshops.
