A major scheme to improve gas supplies in Greenford gets underway this month, and local people can hop on a special information bus this week to find out more.
The National Grid information bus will be visiting Horsenden Lane South near the junction with Bilton Road on Tuesday 15 September, Thursday 17 September and Friday 18 September between approximately 9am and 4pm.
An open evening, where you can come and find out more about the project will also be taking place on Friday 02 October from 7pm in Perivale Community Centre, Horsenden Lane South.
National Grid, in partnership with Morrison Utility Services, is replacing 10km of iron gas mains in Greenford with new hard wearing plastic pipes.
This essential work will ensure the area continues to enjoy a safe, reliable and efficient gas supply for many years to come.
The £2m project began this week in Federal Road and will later progress to Horsenden Lane North.
Engineers will also be working in Aintree Road, Bideford Avenue, Bilton Road, Brooklands Drive, Fairfield Drive, Francis Road, Fraser Road, Horsenden Road, Horsenden Lane South, Jubilee Road, Perimeade Road, Perivale Industrial Estate, Salvia Gardens, Sarsfield Road, Selbourne Gardens, Wadsworth Road. Work will also be taking place in Manor Farm Road, Wembley.
Wherever possible the new pipes will be inserted into the old ones which will minimise the need for digging and reduce traffic disruption. Temporary traffic lights and traffic restrictions will be in place where necessary, and all will be fully signposted.
The project will also include upgrades to service pipes to homes and businesses. Engineers will need to gain access to affected properties and we will contact residents in advance to arrange a date and time. People are reminded that they should always ask to see identification before letting anyone into their property. For more information and advice about this please call 0845 605 6677.
This work has been planned in close consultation with the local authorities and other local stakeholders and will take around six months to complete.
National Grid project engineer Robert Benn said: “We are doing our utmost to minimise disruption and apologise for any inconvenience our work may cause. The new pipes should last for many years if they are left undisturbed providing the local community with safe and reliable gas supplies in future decades. If you’d like to discuss the scheme in more detail do come and meet us on October 2, alternatively visit the information bus or call our helpline for more information.”
This work forms part of National Grid’s national mains replacement programme which has been agreed in conjunction with the Health and Safety Executive. This involves the replacement of all metallic gas mains within 30 metres of buildings.
Local people who have questions about the project but cannot attend the information events can call the project helpline on 01753 872520 during office hours and 01277 814800 outside office hours.
