Gas pipeline company National Grid is reminding motorists that work to renew an old gas main along Gibbett Hill Road in Coventry will be starting on Monday, (February 11). The work will involve replacing one kilometre of pipe from Kirby Road island to the University Estate Office and will take around 20 weeks to complete.
During the course of the work Gibbett Hill Road will be closed to through traffic. Access to the university will be available at all times but traffic will be controlled by temporary traffic lights.
Traffic for the Westwood Business Park will be diverted along the A429, A45, Sir Henry Parkes Road and Kirby Corner Road.
National Grid project manager Tim Cook said: 'This is a major project to replace a main that has come to the end of its operational life. We realise the work will cause some disruption to motorists but it is a short term inconvenience for a long term benefit. We are replacing the existing metal main with a new durable plastic pipe which, if undisturbed, will last around 80 years and require little or no maintenance.’
The project is part of National Grid’s 30 year programme to improve the safety and reliability of the gas supply network by replacing all metal gas pipes that lie within 30m of property.
