National Grid is carrying out essential work to give gas mains in Enfield a 21st century overhaul worth over £1.5million.
Approximately 8km of iron gas mains are being replaced with new hard wearing plastic pipes which should provide many more years of reliable service for residents and businesses.
This project will be carried out by the North London Gas Alliance, a partnership between National Grid and Skanska.
We will be working on the A10 Great Cambridge Road in Enfield between the junction with Pasteur Gardens and Lincoln Road. Work will also take place in Wilbury Way, High Road Tottenham, Bull Lane, Bridport Road, Langhedge Lane, Wigston Close and Snell’s Park.
We have carefully planned our work in close consultation with local authorities, highways agencies, the police and public transport providers to ensure it is carried out with a minimum of disruption. Wherever possible the new pipes will be inserted into the old mains which will reduce the need for excavations.
Constructions Operations Engineer Michael Morris, said: “The old gas mains have provided many years of service but now the time has come to replace them so that people can continue to enjoy safe and reliable gas supplies.
“We apologise for any disruption this essential work may cause and will do our utmost to ensure it is carried out as quickly and safely as possible.”
Work on the project should be complete by June 2010.
This project forms part of National Grid’s national mains replacement scheme which involves replacing all iron gas mains within 30 metres of buildings.
