West Midlands Gas Alliance has scooped a top accolade for the standard of its streetworks. For the second year running, the Wolverhampton based partnership between gas pipeline operator National Grid and leading infrastructure company Morgan Est has been judged the Best Utility Contractor in the Birmingham City Council Considerate Contractor Awards.
Beating off competition from more than 20 other companies, the Gas Alliance received the merit award given to the company that is judged to have achieved an excellent standard in all its streetworks operations.
The West Midlands Gas Alliance was formed in 2005. Over eight years the partnership will aim to replace around 350 kilometres of gas main each year in Wolverhampton, Walsall, Birmingham, Solihull and Sandwell.
The Considerate Contractor Awards were launched in 1998 in a bid to improve the standard of streetworks in Birmingham. Each year all work carried out across the city is monitored and assessed for its overall quality, safety, environmental impact and coordination with other works. Awards are given to the utilities, developers and contractors who have maintained the highest standards of work.
Accepting the award, Alliance manager Phil Taylor: ‘We are delighted to receive this award for the second time. Streetworks are never popular but this award is a testament to our determination to carry out our operations quickly, efficiently and with courtesy to the public.’
