Lane Closures To Cross A52 – Nottingham

17/09/2007

Gas pipeline operator National Grid is advising road users of essential work to lay a new gas main across Clifton Boulevard, A52, near to the Boots Island, from Monday 1 October.

The work will take place at night only, from 8pm to 6am from 1-8 October, to minimise inconvenience to motorists.

Engineers will install a new 450mm diameter plastic gas pipe across the A52 Clifton Boulevard from just after the east/outbound slip road at Lenton Lane to Abbeyfield Road.

The crossing is part of a larger project to lay 550 metres of new gas pipes to help meet the increased demand for gas in the area.

National Grid is employing traffic management specialist company Amscott to ensure the six-lane road remains safe at all times. Work will start on the eastbound carriageway first with two lanes being closed at any one time throughout the works.  Lanes will be closed as follows:

Eastbound – out of Nottingham
• Lanes 1 and 2 coned off from Dunkirk Island to the exit slip road onto Boots Island leading to Queens Drive.  Access to Lenton Lane from the slip road, and the exit slip road to the island, will be maintained at all times.
• Lanes 2 and 3 will be coned off from Dunkirk Island to the junction with Queens Drive.

Westbound – into Nottingham
• Lanes 3 and 2.  Lane 3 will be closed from Clifton Bridge. Lane 2 will be open at the bridge and then coned off to use lane 1.
• Lanes 2 and 1 – Lane 3 and 2 closed from Clifton Bridge.  All traffic will be diverted to the Boots Island and will use the slip road back onto the A52, lane 1.

The work will be carried out by the M1 Gas Alliance, a partnership between National Grid and AMEC and is part of a national programme of work which will see over 15,000km of gas mains being replaced over the next eight years at a cost of around £1.6bn.

Gas alliance project manager, Craig Stocks said: “By working at night and planning the traffic management as carefully as we can, we hope people’s journeys will not be affected. We ask road users to be patient and to work with us, so that we can ensure the gas pipe is laid as quickly and safely as possible.”
