Improvements in the Pipeline

11/07/2007

Gas pipeline operator National Grid is due to start work on a £40,000 scheme to improve the gas network in Knypersley, Stoke-on-Trent.

The six-week scheme will start on Saturday, 21 July 2007 in Newport Road from the entrance of Knypersley County Primary School to Knypersley crossroads and along Tunstall Road from the crossroads to St John's Church.

In total, more than 200 metres of old iron low pressure main will be replaced with a durable plastic pipe which, once in the ground, will last around 80 years with little or no maintenance.

During the course of the work it will be necessary to set up four-way temporary traffic lights to replace the existing lights at the crossroads which will affect the traffic approaching along Tunstall Road, Newpool Road and Park Lane.

National Grid’s project manager Francis Cosgrove said:  ‘We realise this work will cause some inconvenience but I ask the public to bear with us.  This is essential work that will help to keep a safe and reliable supply of gas in the area.  We will be working extended hours and seven days a week to get the work done a quickly as possible.’

The work will be carried out on behalf of National Grid by Enterprise PLC and is part of the company's 30-year programme to improve the safety and reliability of the gas supply network.
