Gas Mains Reinforcement In Shefford

04/01/2008

Gas pipeline company National Grid is advising motorists in Bedfordshire of a temporary road closure in St Francis Way, Shefford, in the New Year, while new gas mains are installed in the road.

Starting Monday 14 January, St Francis Way will be closed from its first junction with Old Bridge Way to number 3A St Francis Way, for four weeks while engineers install 130 metres of new gas pipes.

A diversion route will be in place. Motorists wishing to access St Francis Way will be advised to take the second exit into St Francis Way from Old Bridge Way. Vehicle access will be maintained for residents within the road closure only.

Operations Design Engineer Edward Johnson said: “We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to local people or motorists. A new gas main is required to meet the rising demand for gas in the area and ensure residents continue to enjoy safe and reliable supplies for many years to come.

“Safety is our top priority and we have worked closely with the highways authority to put in place traffic management measures that will protect both engineers and road users.”

The work is being undertaken by Morrison Utility Services on behalf of National Grid.
