National Grid held its 9th annual industry seminar “TBE 2009: Demanding Times” on Thursday 9th July 2009, as part of its Transporting Britain’s Energy consultation process.
The event highlighted the effects of the global recession on both demand and supply, and explored how much of this demand will return as energy prices fall and energy efficiency measures have a greater impact going forward.
National Grid presented its latest demand and supply forecasts for the next ten years, as well as discussing some of the key considerations for electricity and gas for the first half of the twenty first century. National Grid also released its Development of Energy Scenarios document that provides further detail on its latest projections for supply and demand.
The event was chaired by Alison Kay, National Grid’s Commercial Director, Transmission. As well as covering National Grid’s latest forecasts, the event covered a wide range of topics including:
- European developments in demand and market structures
- Security of supply and implications of intermittency on electricity markets
- Renewable energy, including biogas and energy efficiency measures
- UK Renewable Energy Strategy & 2020 targets
- Transporting Britain's Energy - Ofgem's perspective.
