Transporting Britain's Energy

Transporting Britain's Energy - 14 July 2011

National Grid held its 11th annual industry seminar "TBE 2011: Future Energy Dynamics" on Thursday 14th July 2011, as part of its Transporting Britain's Energy (TBE) consultation process. The event took place at One Great George Street, Westminster, London.

The event was attended by 200 energy professionals and provided an opportunity for not only National Grid to present its latest scenarios and forecasts but also for the audience to hear other stakeholders views and to debate a range of other energy issues.

National Grid released its 2011 Development of Energy Scenarios Document which also formed the basis for National Grid's presentations on the day.  A copy of the document is available here along with the spreadsheet containing the underlying data.

Copies of the guest speakers' presentation material is available here.

2012 TBE Consultation

TBE is an annual consultation that initiates National Grid’s annual planning process.  There is currently a significant amount of uncertainty in the energy industry regarding future levels of demand and future supply and generation patterns.  Any information received through the 2012 TBE process will help to inform our scenarios (which are described in our UK Future Energy Scenarios document) and assist in evaluating network capacity requirements which are outlined in the Gas Ten Year Statement.  The 2012 Gas Ten Year Statement will be published in December 2012.

The process starts with the release of a set of targeted questionnaires.  We could appreciated if our stakeholders take a few moments to complete the questionnaire(s) which are applicable to their company's activities.  Responses should be returned to Lilian.Macleod@uk.ngrid.com by 24th February 2012 (with the exception of the Producer Questionnaire).

UK Future Energy Scenarios

The UK Future Energy Scenarios document describes the scenarios used in our annual planning processes. It covers material previously included in the Gas Ten Year Statement but concentrates on the development of the scenarios and the assumptions behind them rather than the implications for the gas and electricity networks.

National Grid will during 2012, consult on the scenarios with the industry.  The consultation process consisted of two interactve workshops and a series of meetings with individual companies which represent the energy market.  The presentation pack which was utilised at the individual companies meetings is available to down load here.

Views gathered in this exercise will inform the development of the 2012 scenario analysis which will be published at the 2012 TBE Event on 27th September 2012.
