Introduction

National Grid provides connection services in accordance with its "National Grid NTS statement of principles and methods to be used to determine charges for National Transmission System connection services" (Licence Condition 4B Statement).  In all instances the connecting party will be required to provide gas measurement equipment.

National Grid ROV Installation

The standard transmission connection provided by National Grid is the Remotely Operable Valve (ROV) installation. The works associated with the provision of the ROV installation will always be undertaken by National Grid and funded by the developer.

The simplified schematic drawing below identifies the elements that would typically be provided by National Grid and those that would typically be provided by the developer.

The basic principles and design of an ROV installation apply equally to Exit, Entry and Storage connections; specific variations (e.g. signalling requirements and system protection) are developed as the project proceeds.

ROV Installation with System Extension

If requested, National Grid offers to undertake construction of a System Extension in accordance with the Licence Condition 4B Statement.  The works associated with the provision of the ROV installation element of this option will always be undertaken by National Grid.

Taking Ownership

National Grid operates a taking ownership scheme which provides the connecting party with the option of constructing a connecting pipeline to National Grid standards, and subject to the provisions of a Taking Ownership Agreement, having National Grid take ownership of it.  Under this option, which must be initiated prior to commencement of any design, the pipeline will be incorporated into the NTS and National Grid will take responsibility for its subsequent operation.

Further information about National Grid’s taking ownership option is set out in the Licence Condition 4B Statement.  and is limited to equipment that is to form part of the NTS.  It does not include any gas flow measurement equipment and / or associated apparatus.
