Gas Supply Disconnections

On this page you will find details of the service National Grid provides when requested to disconnect the flow of gas to a property on the National Grid Gas Distribution Network.

A permanent service disconnection can be requested when a property is to be demolished or the owner no longer wants a gas supply. The supply will usually be terminated at the point of connection to the gas main so gas will no longer flow into the property. Prior to National Grid attending on site the gas meter will need to be removed, further information on this is detailed below.

Important Information

We recommend that you thoroughly read the following important key points:

  • Any quotation provided by National Grid will be for the disconnection of the gas service pipe only.
  • Under current industry arrangements, you will need to contact the relevant Gas Supplier to arrange removal of any metering equipment on site.
  • National Grid will only undertake the physical disconnection once the metering equipment has been removed.
  • On receipt of your signed Acceptance Form, we will contact you to arrange a convenient date to commence the works on site.
  • Please remember that we will need to access your property to complete the work.
  • There are certain site conditions, such as the presence of scaffolding on site, which may require a risk assessment to be carried out prior to National Grid or its contractors commencing work on site.
