Independent Gas Transporters

Independent Gas Transporters (IGTs) develop, own, operate and maintain local gas transportation networks.  IGT networks are directly connected to the Gas Distribution Network (GDN), such as National Grid, via a Connected System Exit Point (CSEP) or indirectly to the GDN via another IGT. Although domestic, industrial and commercial premises are connected to IGT networks, the new housing market constitutes the largest share of the IGT market.

There are eight organisations holding IGT licences, although only five of these own and operate transportation assets. Details of all IGT’s can be obtained from the Ofgem (the gas industry regulator) website.
