Olympics 2012 and how it will affect your work request

The London 2012 Games

The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games promise to be two of the most exciting events the UK has ever seen. The Games are a significant organisational challenge; nearly 18,000 athletes are expected to take part and 7.7m tickets have been sold.

Preparations are already underway and many organisations and individuals are being asked to do things differently in order to help make the Games a success.

The Olympic and Paralympic Route Networks

To ensure athletes and officials can get to the events quickly and safely, an Olympic Route Network (ORN) and Paralympic Route Network (PRN) will be in place. The ORN and PRN will be networks of existing roads within London and the UK identified as key routes for getting Olympic and Paralympic related traffic where it needs to be while keeping normal day-to-day traffic moving.
Precisely which roads will be included within the ORN and PRN is in the process of being finalized. These roads will need to be kept free of all non-emergency road works to help minimise traffic disruption. National Grid and other utility companies will not be permitted to carry out non-emergency road works in these areas. Restrictions will take effect from 1st March through to 30th September 2012.

Information relating to the ORN and PRN can be found on the London 2012 website at www.london2012.com/orn

What does this mean for my Gas Services?

If your home or business is on or near the ORN and/or PRN and affected by the Olympic Embargo please be advised that National Grid will still provide you with a quotation for your works. However upon receipt of your acceptance, due to the restrictions (stated above) it is unlikely that we will be able to provide you with a planned physical commencement date within the Olympic Embargo period. In these instances we will contact you to discuss & agree the options available to you.
