What are the timescales for receiving a new Connection offer from National Grid & how long will the offer be open for acceptance once I have received it?

National Grid has a licence obligation to provide a customer with an offer within a defined timescale, this is dependent upon the type of agreement the customer has applied for and whether any works are needed to facilitate the connection. The table below highlights the timescales National Grid works to for each connection option, all timescales are applicable from the clock start date which is defined as the date in which the customer has formally provided a completed application form, with the appropriate technical data & the relevant cleared application fee. Upon these conditions being satisfied National Grid will inform the customer of this date.

The relevant timescales for each agreement type are as follows -

  • Bilateral Connection Agreement  -  3 Months
  • Bilateral Embedded Generation Agreement  (where works are required) -  3 Months
  • Bilateral Embedded Generation Agreement  (where NO works are required)  - 28 Days
  • Bilateral Embedded Licence Exemptable Large Power Station Agreement (where works are required)  - 3 Months
  • Bilateral Embedded Licence Exemptable Large Power Station Agreement  (where NO works are required)  - 28 Days
