National Grid Volunteer: Pete Bateman

Pete Bateman

Pete is a Commissioning Manager with the South West Alliance.

"I’m Scout Leader with the 7th Bristol Group and have been doing this for nearly 30 years.

"Our Group is in Clifton, Bristol and has been running since 1909 - this year we’ll be celebrating our centenary. We meet up weekly and run weekend camps every couple of months plus a weeks summer camp. We also had a scout in the Dartmoor Ten Tors Challenge this year.

"I applied for a community grant through the National Grid scheme - they gave me a £1000 which was brilliant. We're buying a new mower for maintaining our camp sites and so the lads can use more of our grounds.

"I was a scout in my teenage years and thoroughly enjoyed it so carried on (after a break whilst at college). I like to think I’m giving something back after all the support and coaching I’ve received as a scout over the years. I know the lads get a lot of life skills from their experience which is great.

"I’ve developed real team working skills through Scouts, something I’ve been able to bring back to the office and use in the everyday work environment.

"It’s great to see youngsters develop and grow into (hopefully) responsible citizens!"
