National Grid Volunteer: Asif Aziz

Asif Aziz

Asif is a Senior Strategic Planning Analyst within the Strategy and Corporate Development team.

"I find it hugely rewarding to be a part of the Special Olympics movement. I’m very keen on sport and believe it has the power to make a difference to people. I can see the confidence, self-esteem, and social awareness benefits that people with learning disabilities get from Special Olympics and that makes it all the more rewarding for me to be involved - I can bring back some of that enthusiasm into the workplace. The experience has improved my communication skills and patience, and provided a great networking opportunity for me as I’ve got to know a lot of colleagues through volunteering.

"I think volunteering enables National Grid to give something back to the community and to give its employees an awareness of the bigger picture…volunteering can bring all sorts of benefits back to the business, through increased morale, motivation and increased team effectiveness.

"It proves National Grid is serious about supporting the communities in which it operates and that it's a company which makes a difference through harnessing the skills and time of its employees rather than just relying on pure financial sponsorship."
