Bishops Wood Centre near Worcester is inviting the public to awaken their senses by joining an earthwalk through its ancient woodlands and meadows. The environmental centre, which lies in the grounds of the National Grid substation at Crossway Green, is holding an open day on Sunday, July 8 for the public to go along and sample some of the activities and attractions it has to offer.
The earthwalk will offer a guided walk around the grounds to discover some of the plants and creatures that inhabit the 70 acre site. Visitors can also try their hand at pond dipping to find some of the creatures that live in the water, build a shelter using branches and grasses and show their creative side by producing artworks from the natural materials found in the woodlands.
In addition, there will be a chance to have a ‘behind the scenes’ tour of National Grid’s high voltage substation.
Refreshments will be available from the Boreley Pig Roast, offering free-range hot pork rolls. Vegetarian and vegan food will be provided by Global Recipes Local Food.
Head of Centre John Rhymer said: ‘This will be an exciting day with something for everyone. There will be a chance to try your hand at some woodland skills, eat some good food and learn about our local wildlife. We’re inviting people to come along and see why we are one of Europe’s leading environmental education centres.’
Bishops Wood Centre is situated just off the A449 at Crossway Green, near Stourport. The centre will be open to the public from 11am to 3pm on February 1. Entry costs £3 for adults and £1 for children. For members of Friends of Bishops Wood, entry is £2 for adults and children free.
