Get Stuck In - Volunteer Day At Penwortham

23/05/2006

Preston firms are being urged to give their employees a day off – so that they can learn new skills by going to work as a volunteer.

National Volunteer Week runs from June 1st to 7th and to coincide with this, the Penwortham Environmental Education Centre is holding a Volunteer Day on Friday, June 2nd which is open to anyone living or working in the Preston area.

The centre, which stands on 20 acres of land on the National Grid sub-station site on Howick Cross Lane, specialises in arranging environmental events and activities for schools and local people.

Centre staff are seeking volunteers who are prepared to roll their sleeves up and get stuck into a number of tasks ranging from pond clearance, willow weaving and litter picking.

During previous Volunteer Week events, the local fire brigade and the armed forces have pitched in to lend a hand.

Centre Head, Helen Greaves said: “This is a great opportunity for local businesses to give their employees a break from the routine, the chance to learn some new skills and to do something which benefits to local community into the bargain.”

Anyone interested in helping out on the day should contact the Penwortham Environmental Education Centre on 01772 750005.

Reporters and photographers are welcome to attend.
