To ensure we’ve enough power to keep the UK running now, and for the next thirty years, we need a skilled Transmission Strategy Planner. By helping us to prepare for the future and adapt to impending supply demands, you’ll be a vital part of the team keeping the UK powered.
The Capital Programme, including £15bn of investment, has been created to best cope with changes to the country’s power requirement. It will ensure we’re always best placed to cope with the many developments in future demand, and it will promise many engineering specialists a dynamic career, with many development opportunities. This is a golden opportunity to be at the heart of innovation and to create a design legacy that will ensure sustainable economic operation of the transmission system for future generations.
With a degree or HNC in electrical or mechanical engineering or similar numerate discipline, you’ll be experienced in working with high performance teams and will have an in-depth knowledge of power systems. Determining network capacity and operational performance for the next 25 years and beyond, you’ll give ample consideration to the accommodation of the new tranche of nuclear generators, significant volumes of onshore offshore renewable generation and major tidal projects. You’ll also undertake detailed system analysis, economic appraisal and co-ordination of research and development. To meet these objectives you’ll consider a wide range of solutions – and your experience of complex technical and commercial information will enable you to present your findings confidently.
