This is Industrial Placement

An Industrial Placement is a great way to develop real experience of working in a large organisation like ours.  More than that, it gives you a real taste for what the future could hold; and like many others before you, it could be the first step in a career with National Grid.

Typically, we offer placements to students who are in their third year of their degree and are taking a year out to work in industry as part of a sandwich course.  These could be in Engineering, Commercial, Finance, IT, Human Resources, Supply Chain Management, Communications, or Safety, Health & the Environment.  During your year, you typically work within one area of the business but get to understand the broad range of the business, which could have a fundamental impact on your future career decisions.

Whether you’re working in the field or in the office, you will be working on real projects with experienced people, gaining the kind of experience that provides a great platform for your career.  We also provide training - a two-day development workshop that focuses on helping you better understand your skills, improving your effectiveness and planning your development.

There are also other opportunities to develop your skills and experience.  This could be educational visits to other parts of the business or networking with colleagues to understand more about a particular aspect of National Grid.

Many Industrial Placement students go on to become Sponsored Students and then join our Graduate Development Programme.
