“A girl technician?  Most of my friends haven’t got a clue what I do.  They think it’s all dirty work and that I’m out digging roads all day.  But actually, it’s not like that at all.  My job is all about network maintenance, maintaining all the safety devices.  I’m out and about all day working with a couple of experienced technicians, who now let me do a lot of the work and just observe to make sure that I’m doing it right.

“It’s outdoors and that’s partly why I enjoy it – although if you asked me that in the middle of winter, I might not give you the same response.  But overall I just couldn’t see myself in a desk job or cutting hair.  This is a great job if you want to do things and tackle problems, which can be different every day.  Of course you can’t be precious about breaking a nail or going up a ladder.  But if you want to use your brain and get out and about, then this could be for you.”
