Inclusion & Diversity
In January 2005, we launched our Inclusion and Diversity Vision setting out how we will develop and operate our business in a way that results in a more inclusive environment. At National Grid we are passionate about the difference each of our employees brings to work, and we value the difference you could bring to our organisation.
Whatever your background, beliefs or interests, if you are a talented individual - there could be a place for you in our organisation. We strive to increase the diversity of our workforce, actively celebrating the differences individuals bring as this will ensure we continually develop our business to effectively compete in the marketplace.
We aim for an inclusive environment in which our talented employees are treated in an open, honest and respectful manner. We want a work place that reflects the communities we serve and which allows each individual to bring all they are and everything they are, to their job every day. This will bring us the best people, and will then bring out the best in our people. It’s an important way for us to grow and improve
Within National Grid we have several employee networks to support our inclusive environment. These include:
These networks were established to provide a mutually beneficial relationship for our company and our employees. In addition to the achievements of the employee networks, all our managers have experienced inclusion & diversity drama training, which has been immensely positive and all staff also have the opportunity to participate
Our employee networks contribute to an inclusive environment by providing opportunities for all employees to network with each other and senior leaders, to attain career building skills, and to provide a better understanding of our company and our business.
National Grid is on a journey to becoming truly inclusive, an illustration of this is us receiving a Silver Award in the UK’s most extensive benchmarking survey, Opportunity Now, on gender, equality and diversity in the work place. We just missed gold by 1%! We made the Times Top 50 “Where to Work” in 06, 07 and 2008!
