“The highlight of my time so far at National Grid has been going to the 23rd World Gas Conference in Amsterdam in June.  This was a great opportunity to see the whole of the gas market and how it is developing.  I’m not sure if this is typical for a graduate joining this business, but it was a fantastic experience – not least because I got to see the market from a much more strategic perspective.

“Coming from China to work for National Grid has obviously been a major step for me – and it was great that the company was willing to apply for a work permit for me.  There has also been excellent support here, including the Ethnic Minority Network and the Women in Networks.  But that said, you also have to make things happen yourself – and I’ve pushed myself to make the very most of the opportunity, working with directors and senior managers across the business.  Sometimes I’ve been told I can be a little too direct; but if you don’t ask…”
