Construction - Birmingham, Bristol & Buckinghamshire

The primary function of Electricity Construction is to ensure that the investments National Grid is making in Substations and Overhead Lines is delivered in a safe, efficient and cost effective manner.

The team work closely with colleagues across the organisation to ensure that projects are developed to meet the operational requirements of the high-voltage (HV) Transmission Network, and have the necessary network access and commission to go onto the system in an operationally safe manner.

Principally, they deliver infrastructure projects that range from a new substation to an overhead line replacement, and asset replacement projects where ageing obsolete equipment is replaced with modern equivalents.

Construction projects at National Grid are delivered through six Electricity Transmission Alliances as well as a Core Construction team. The Alliance approach embraces the principles of collaborative working with National Grid’s supply chain partners to deliver the capital programme for Overhead Line, Cable and Substation construction.

When you finish the Foundation Engineer programme, you will be required to do a further year of in house training in Construction, and you could be based in one of the following three areas:

  • Stokenchurch, Buckinghamshire
  • Thornbury, Bristol
  • Coleshill, Birmingham

The role you will be doing once you complete the programme involves getting out and about and meeting a variety of different people.  You will be responsible for managing a number of projects from start to finish.  You will be monitoring the cost, specification and time scales to ensure the projects are delivered to our standards.
