What information can be found in the "Responsibly" section of the National Grid corporate website?
The "Responsibly" section of this website is National Grid's web-based corporate responsibility report. It provides a Company-wide perspective on our governance, policies, performance and achievements over a wide range of economic, environmental, employee and social issues.
What period does the information cover?
The majority of corporate responsibility information relates to year ended 31 March 2008. Where possible, data in the performance section of the site covers the five years ended 31 March 2004 - 2008.
What performance data is included?
Our corporate responsibility performance is reported in line with our Corporate Responsibility Reporting Principles.
Data in the performance section is aggregated to Company or country level (e.g. UK and US) and covers all wholly-owned businesses with the exception that data relating to the ex-KeySpan part of our US operations is not included for year ended 2007/08 or prior years unless otherwise stated.
Where appropriate and meaningful, both absolute and normalised performance data is provided. Normalised data provides a more accurate indicator of year-on-year performance than an absolute measure because it takes into account changing employee numbers resulting from acquisitions and disposals.
Unless otherwise stated, historic data includes discontinued operations (e.g. the four UK distribution networks sold in 2005).
Key financial information is predominantly located in the Annual Report and Accounts. Background information about National Grid is set out in other areas of the corporate website.
How will KeySpan's performance be integrated into the "Responsibly" section of the National Grid corporate website?
KeySpan Corporation was acquired in August 2007. Unless stated otherwise, the first full year of safety, health, environmental and other CR-related performance data for this part of our US operations will be reported for year ended 31 March 2009.
The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)
We have taken the Global Reporting Initiative and other best practice guidelines into account while developing our key performance indicators. To help those who are interested in the GRI process and to assist comparison with other company reports, we have mapped our Internet site report against the GRI indicators (see GRI index).
