We measure the achievement of our objectives through the use of qualitative assessments and through the monitoring of quantitative indicators, called key performance indicators (KPIs).
In line with our operating objectives, we use both financial and non-financial KPIs. Where relevant, KPIs are used as our primary measures of whether we are achieving our objectives; however, the scale and size of our operations means we use many other detailed performance measures in addition to KPIs.
Business-level targets
Each of our businesses has also established its own set of business-specific performance targets. These targets relate to the issues faced by each business and the differing risks they may pose through their day-to-day activities. This risk-based approach enables the businesses to make their contribution to the Company's overall performance while recognising the activities of each business and their specific risks and impacts differ. These targets are agreed annually, although in some cases they are on-going targets which will be delivered over several years.
