Road testing electric vehicles

01/06/2010

As part of a new Government-funded project, Leah Fry from global procurement and Danielle Willett from asset management are test-driving 2 of only 25 Mitsubishi I MiEVs in the UK over the course of 2010. The award-winning, fully electric cars boast zero emissions.

Danielle and Leah collected the keys to their cars at a launch event in Birmingham in December 2009. Leah said, “The opportunity to test a brand new car appealed, as well as the difference I could make to the environment – my i MiEV has taken a 4x4 off the road!” Danielle added, “I’m not pure green but I’m very green keen. We have put in more than the recommended amount of insulation to the house, both kids have been in washable nappies, we recycle most of our rubbish and over the coming year our house will have further green modifications made to it. Nevertheless, doing something outside of the house is venturing into new territory.”

As well as helping with national research and promoting electric vehicles, Danielle and Leah will be contributing to National Grid’s own research into the potential of using low-carbon vehicles as future fleet cars.

National Grid employees can read about their progress and experiences through a blog, which can be viewed on the UK Intranet site.
