National Grid has been named one of three UK climate change champion companies by anti-poverty charity, Oxfam.
Its ‘Forecast for Tomorrow’ report published today says the UK has some of the best and most inspiring solutions on tackling climate change, and National Grid is praised for its vision in setting out its plans for emissions reductions.
The report highlights both good and bad policies and actions among business, government and public bodies. Oxfam say that decisions taken now by government and the private sector will determine how successful the country will be in achieving emissions reductions.
Oxfam praises National Grid for three of its policies:
- Setting its own emissions targets in excess of those required by legislation. Emissions have already been cut by 38 per cent against an independently verified baseline
- Introduction of carbon budgets to all lines of business with pay linked to achievement of targets
- Lobbying on climate changes issues with progressive and creative policies.
Oxfam’s report also highlights how National Grid has used technological solutions to help with energy efficiency and cutting emissions.
