National Grid and npower have been awarded a prestigious ‘Big Tick’ for our commitment to corporate responsibility.
The Power in Partnership award was presented at the annual Business in the Community Awards for Excellence to the two companies for their involvement in the ‘Warm Wales’ initiative, which is also supported by Neath Port Talbot Borough Council and Wrexham County Borough Council.
The scheme has surpassed the challenging targets set to reduce the number of homes in fuel poverty and improve the energy efficiency of all properties in these local authority areas.
All households are visited and assessed with the aim of offering them help to make their property more energy efficient and identify the availability of new or additional benefit payments.
More than 30,000 homes in Neath Port Talbot and Wrexham have already benefited from physical improvements, with more than 45,000 free and discounted insulation and heating measures installed.
The combined investment into both counties has totalled more than £16 million. The scheme has generated £50 million in lifetime energy savings, and achieved an annual carbon saving of more than 8,100 tonnes per year; the equivalent of 1,928 cars each doing 12,000 miles a year being removed from the roads.
Local residents have also benefited from more than £2.8 million in extra annual benefit payments, an average of over £4,000 additional income per household. Warm Wales has created 60 new jobs and provided training to support those needing additional help to move into employment.
