National Grid Property cleans up at specialist land remediation awards

09/11/2011

National Grid Property received two awards at the Brownfield Briefing Awards 2011 – an annual industry-recognised event, which showcases land regeneration experts who apply innovative solutions to reclaim previously commercially used land.

The awards received were ‘Best Project Closure / Verification Process’, for work undertaken at Warminster by Property’s Scott Lewis and the consultant Parsons Brinckerhoff, and ‘Most Sustainable and Low Carbon Remediation Project’, won by Property’s Paul Mantell and contractors Celtic for work carried out on a site at Aldershot.

National Grid Property is responsible for managing the company’s UK property portfolio, which includes many former gasworks sites. Due to the legacy of historic gas manufacture, many sites require specialist remediation to reclaim the land for future use. They are also dedicated to introducing new, innovative clean-up technologies to maximise material re-use, minimise the use of landfill and so contribute to brownfield regeneration. Since 1996, the team has reclaimed over 1,500 acres of land for beneficial reuse.
