Robert (Bob) Catell was appointed to the National Grid Board in September 2007 following the acquisition of KeySpan Corporation of which he was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. He joined Brooklyn Union in 1958, a predecessor company to KeySpan, moving through the managerial ranks and in 1991 took up the position of President and Chief Executive Officer. He was named Chairman and Chief Executive Officer in 1996. He is the co-author of The CEO and the Monk: One Company’s Journey to Profit and Purpose (2004). He is a co-chair of the Board of the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership and the chairman of the Long Island Association. He is an ex officio Director and Chairman Emeritus of The Partnership for New York City, Inc., the American Gas Association, the U.S. Energy Association (USEA), and the Advisory Board of the City College of New York’s School of Engineering. He is a Vice-Chairman of the National Petroleum Council’s Natural Gas Committee, a former Chairman of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and is on the Board of the Business Council of New York State and the Board of the Colin Powell Institute. He has received both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the City College of New York and is a Registered Professional Engineer.
