Grain LNG Summary

Monday 17th November was a truly historic day for everyone at Grain LNG with the arrival of the Phase 2 commissioning cargo.  The Al Khuwair was carrying the largest ever cargo of LNG, aboard a Q-Flex LNG vessel.  It is a resounding testament to the hard work and single-minded determination of the whole team here at Grain LNG that this was possible.

Peter Boreham, Director UK LNG, said "This is a momentous day for us all at Grain LNG and one we should remember.  Everyone in National Grid should be very proud of the people at Grain LNG today, it is only through their unselfish long hours, determined effort and inspiring engineering that they have worked as ONE TEAM to deliver this fantastic milestone".

Underlining the strategic importance of the shipment and the commissioning of Grain LNG as the UK’s leading LNG Importation Terminal, there was great national and local media interest with Channel 4 and BBC on site at Grain to interview Peter Boreham and film the cargo arrival.  There were also several interviews with Steve Holliday on the Today Programme and 5Live.  Sky, BBC News 24/World, CNBC, Reuters and Bloomberg also had footage. Live footage was also carried by the BBC during their Breakfast programme on Tuesday 18th November.

There was also close political interest with Secretary of State for Department of Energy and Climate Change, Ed Milliband saying "The more options we have for importing our gas the more secure are the flows coming into the UK.  LNG will become increasingly important as our own gas reserves decline and will make it easier to get the gas we need.   Today's shipment shows that LNG is already making a contribution to securing the UK's energy supplies".
