Community involvement

At National Grid, we are proud of our community programme. It is a key part of our vision and growth strategy and employees across all areas of our organisation are actively involved.

At a local level, we are committed to being a good neighbour and want to generate the goodwill of the communities we serve. We have a number of community investment programmes which reflect this, as well as an employee ‘Matched Giving’ and community grants scheme to encourage our employees to volunteer and contribute to the charitable causes of their choice.

Our community investment is carefully focused on areas where we have both a business interest as well as knowledge and expertise to share.

As a science and engineering led business we are keen to support, science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects, helping to address the ‘skills gap’ in this area through education programmes and resources designed to inspire and motivate young minds.

Energy efficiency and the environment are high on the public agenda – and they are on the top of ours. Energy and environment is a key focus of our employee volunteering programme and over 70,000 pupils visited one of our five environment centres last year.
